Just stumbled across your newsletter from Notes. This is great. As someone who also writes about music, I totally agree with the miracle of being surprised. (And btw, you don’t need to give The 1975 any more chances)
I really liked your triple D about Vampire Weekend, although in reality the Strokes have a better catalog than the Vampire (that is, I like them more ;)). I look forward to reading more future in-depth analyzes of other bands.
I definitely got caught up in the Vampire Weekend hate when they first came around and avoided them. But I recently listened to Father of the Bride and loved it. Guess I'll have to check out their whole discography now.
I was primed to like Vampire Weekend by a friend who was at Columbia with them. Before their first album he was talking them up as the breakout band on campus. He was someone whose taste I trusted, and vice versa. So I was shocked at how much I disliked them - and do to this day, even after trying subsequent releases. Oh, well! P.S. Your well-written and passionate deep dive did the best job yet at showing why someone who like them you feel that way. Kudos.

I mean, first I live and die Vampire Weekend, and second thx for the link to the Molina piece ❤️
Thanks, Josh, for reminding me how much I love this band. I know that this weekend will be vampirish indeed.
