Goodnight Summerland is gorgeous and a nice contrast to Someone New. Was really excited to hear that Sam Evian helped produce. Interesting arrangements, thoughtful songwriting, subtle, beautiful ambient landscapes. It's the kind of music that burrows into your subconscious.
She’s always so consistent even when she tries new lanes. Also, Sam’s become one of my favorite producers in such a short time. Very stoked to hear new music from him this year.
Congrats on your first year Josh! This is an eclectic list with a lot of new artists for me to explore. I did a quick scroll through to see which of my top 50 albums made your list. There were only two but quite a few more on your list were contenders for my AOTY that didn’t quite make the final cut. I’m really looking forward to spending some time with all these new artists, listening while I read your blurbs.
Thanks so much for this list. As a newbie Substack writer I’m coming to appreciate more and more how much goes into writing an entry like this, so thank you!
Love this list, and I already have a few new “favorites” that slipped past me this year. This is why I love these lists...less about the list, which albums made it or didn’t, and more about the opportunity to find new music!! Thanks!
Congrats on a year of the 'stack, Josh. It's been wonderful to read your thoughts on such a consistent basis. Excellent list - with plenty of stuff I haven't made time for yet, which is always exciting (if overwhelming) this time of year. Looking forward to checking a lot of these albums out. Cheers!
Great list, Josh! Thought you might have Militarie Guns "Life Under The Gun" make your top 60. Excited to give some of these albums a listen that I haven't heard before. So much great music released from Chicago artists this year. Totally agree that not having a consensus number one for year end lists felt refreshing!
I don’t know if lauding the lack of a consensus AOTY pick is an unpopular opinion, but it’s one we share. All the more so in a year like this when there truly was something for everyone.

No such list is complete without Volcano by Jungle.
