Glad to see a fellow In Rainbows partisan! Don't agree with every ranking but enjoyed reading your reasoning. And I'll have to relisten to The Bends. “It’s a great rock record but Radiohead got more interesting as they went along” would be my gut take too but I haven't listened to it top-to-bottom in ages.
Finally spending time with this article - such a fun deep dive into Radiohead.
Appreciate the love for Polyethylene Parts 1 and 2; back when I was getting into Radiohead and we only had CDs, you’d end up spending as much time with a random EP than you did with the records themselves. A Reminder, Melatonin, Pearly...... all felt pretty significant.
I always believed In Rainbows’ musical brilliance was overshadowed at the time by its ‘groundbreaking’ pricing campaign. I also agree that it is their best work so far.
The Bends is such a time capsule and also a timeless record, which is a very hard feat for a 90s rock album, since I find the decade’s sound to be too era-specific. Definitely my second favorite.
But my favorite part of this article was you reminiscing the time you first discovered Radiohead. It resonated a lot with me, I think you did a brilliant job capturing the exciting (and awkward) feeling of the high school music-based talks with friends. It made me remember a lot of my old memories, which was great.
The impact and influence of In Rainbows quite literally cannot be understated - it is such an amazing album, and every time I return to it I gain a new understanding. Truly a gem of an album, and I'm so glad that it is getting the recognition it deserves here.
Wouldnt even play it on Rock Band, that’s dedication of a very particular snobbiness, well done. I was at that very same Tinley Park show! Only time I’ve seen them and they blew me away, I have a fond memory of leaving from a friend’s HS graduation party and caravaning to TP in someone’s crappy handmedown car. Stone sober for Radiohead, whodathunk. Glad NNAMDI rocked too; the only time I left a show before the headliner was when he opened for black midi at Metro.
There's only six new songs on their "My Iron Lung" EP, but I have a hard time leaving that out of a list of Radiohead albums. "The Trickster" is a straight BANGER.

It's been years since I've heard some of those Radiohead records, but your descriptions make me want to jump in for a relisten. Thanks!
