5 standout albums from January so far. Plus, Mike Leigh's 'Hard Truths,' a big book on soccer, and more.
As always, it was great to see you at the show @ Schuba's this weekend! I have plenty of confidence in my taste in music, but when I catch you at one of these shows, I'm always a little more reassured. You've got a cold one on me next time!
Hard Truths needs to be seen by everyone. Maybe the best film about resentment and its roots in trauma that I've ever seen.
Where to start with Leigh?
Secrets & Lies. Hard Truths is honestly a pretty good primer too. Naked and Meantime as next steps. Topsy Turvy and Peterloo for the historical stuff.
Thank you for the intro to Ulrika Spacek! Sonic Youth, Deerhunter AND myb influences? Outstanding. I look forward to the new album next week.
So good! Wrote about their last LP in an earlier No Expectations list. Also incredibly recommended if you haven’t checked it out yet
Lucky you. Looks like they are coming your way in late March.
Happy New Year, Josh! Welcome back (we're thrilled you're here).
Greg Freeman is so fantastic live. Loved this edition!!
