I love the Lia Kohl, too. If you want more adjacent stuff, check out Mizu's Forest Scenes. I've tried the others you included but they haven't connected, although Nothing from the Sima Cunningham album is a great song. Geese are so great live, I hope to see them again someday!
re: New Yorker article - MJ Lenderman is perfectly fine (Wednesday rules and Boat Songs had plenty of bright spots); my question is: how did an artist so overwhelmingly uninteresting get this much of a press push in recent weeks? Every single outlet under the sun is digging (and it takes digging) to find something compelling to say about this guy and all they can seem to land on is: he went to Catholic school or something..? Got it.
I love his music and think the new album is fantastic but it is a staggering amount of press. I'm happy for him. Every year, an indie rock act breaks through and gets a ton of profiles. Not a bad thing!
