Fred and Dave are an excellent pairing. Although early Fred records like sink like a symphony or even city center stay with more then 2010s trio. But got damn I love any Fred Thomas project and it’s always comforting to hear those lyrics, very helpful this past week.

Always good to have your recs to settle in with on a Thursday night, especially after a week like this.

I’ve been a Ganz reader for a long time - especially enjoy the podcast he does about 90s movies with Jamelle Bouie - and have never heard about his work at Genius. Would love if you could share anything from that time - or if you interviewed John about that work and how he think it fits with everything else going on online.

Hi No Expectations heads, I’ve been really digging two Ryley Walker live albums (Malmo and Copenhagen) where he’s playing with two drummers. It’s a good tangent to the live Sonic Youth deep dive I’m in. I don’t know much of Ryley’s music otherwise, anyone have recommendations for similar live performances?

I'm digging that Dave Vettraino album too. It was recommended to me by someone at 606 Records when I emailed to request a vinyl copy of Total Blue; it's not all that similar, much less funky, but very peaceful! Great for this week.

I absolutely love the new Fred Thomas album. Agree that it's maybe his overall best, and I didn't think anything would top "Mallwalkers," which is a song I go through long stretches of listening to basically on repeat.
